Africa, Blood And Guts

Politically Incorrect, but as powerful and informative as it was when first released more than 50 years ago. Africa Addio - known as Africa Blood and Guts in the United States and Farewell Africa in the United Kingdom - is a 1966 Italian documentary film co-directed, co-edited and co-written by Gualtiero Jacopetti and Franco Prosperi with music by Riz Ortolani.

The film is about the end of the colonial era in Africa. Its graphic description of a journey by a group of young liberals as they travel the length of the Dark Continent is an eye-opening classic.

Suffice it to say that, while they were liberals at the start of their journey, by the time they reached the sanity and order of minority-ruled South Africa, their position was very much better informed – and changed!
