Breaking News: Notre Dame is on Fire

The world famous Notre Dame is on fire. Fire fighters are currently at the scene tackling the blaze.

Videos circulating on social media shows flames and plumes of smoke pouring from the roof of the medieval building.

The mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, described it as a "terrible fire" and urged people at the scene to respect the boundaries set up by fire crews in order to ensure that they remain safe.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear.

The blaze comes only weeks after a number of churches in France were set ablaze after the Christchurch massacre in New Zealand.
