Christian bakers fined for refusing to bake a cake for a gay couple hope to relaunch business
Follow @KnightsTempOrgA Christian couple that was ordered to pay $135,000 in damages for refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding is fundraising to relaunch their bakery.
Aaron and Melissa Klein owned Sweet Cakes by Melissa in the US state of Oregon until 2013, when a lesbian couple brought a lawsuit against the them for discrimination.
The Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries found the Klein's unlawfully discriminated the lesbian couple and fined them.
Although the case it's still being fought in court, the uproar surrounding the cased cause the closure of the shop and consequently, the Kleins decided to move to Montana.
They are now fundraising to relaunch their business to "show God's goodness to everyone."
"I had said I was never going to open a bakery again, but God has seemed to change my heart with this," Melissa wrote on her online appeal. "It's been 10 years since having my shop in Oregon and I greatly miss it along with all my sweet customers."
As of Monday, 158 people had given nearly $18,000 to the couple.
She continued: "I'm so very thankful, grateful and blessed for all of you that have considered helping us with this.
"Everyone has been so helpful during these times and there is no way to thank you more than for us to keep going forward and building our business stronger than ever as a family.
"Showing resilience and faith that God is the rock we stand on and His love will conquer all fears."
Lawyers representing the Kleins expect to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review the case before the end of this summer.
