As a matter of fact, pre-Columbus was a howling wilderness, rather than ‘paradise’, and the  Solutreans, Celts and Vikings had got there earlier, but even so his voyage was an incredible achievement that changed the world forever.

 

Remembered of course by Amerindian activists as a disaster, for Christians and European-Americans the anniversary is a very special day.
