Now For The Skylights!

Now For The Skylights!

  • NOW IT'S TIME FOR THE ROOF WINDOWS to TRANSFORM THE NEWLY CREATED EXTRA BEDROOMS!

The Priory project is just about to reach one of the most exciting bits! With nearly the structural work done for the attic conversion, we can lay the floor and then do what we've been looking forward to for ages: Cut out sections of the roof and fit the velux roof windows.

We're excited because, at the stage, the old dingey attics will suddenly become real bedroom spaces. For the first time, visitors will be able to look out at the chapel roof and get a totally different view of our beautiful ancient cross. We don't have any idea of what you'll be able to see in the distance, but the light flooding into these two rooms is going to be wonderful.

The roof window in each of the two bedrooms will, as shown in the picture here, open from the top, so as to provide emergency fire escapes. The one over the stairwell in the middle will not have this vital feature and so will be a little cheaper, but altogether, and including the flashings, the three will cost £2,600. That's about $2.500 all in.

The picture below gives you an idea of just how much work has already gone into this part of the project. If you look carefully, you'll see the lovely Christian image on our centre front window. Lit from behind, this is really something to behold from the street outside once it gets dark. The Priory has already become something of a local landmark! It's all been done thanks to the generosity of a fine band of Knights, Dames, Affiliates and supporters.

We're not yet at the last push, but we really are cracking through this stupendous work now. So we need to keep the progress rolling, which means we need to order the three roof windows by next Monday or Tuesday, so the delivery time doesn't hold our master builder up. Whether it's one person moved to pay for the whole lot, 25 of you chipping in $100 each, or a collection of smaller amounts from those who want to help but can't afford that much, we know we'll get there. Deus Vult! The question is, will you be among the wonderful folk who make it happen?
