Ardent fans of the idea that the English only arrived in Britain after the fall of the Roman Empire will find this video challenging to say the least. But history lovers and those with inquiring minds will find this unorthodox history fascinating.

The presenter – whose accent, for the benefit of English-speakers unfamiliar with the accents of the island from which their tongue hails, is from the North-East – digs into some ancient sources which suggest that the English were already in Britain before their numbers wre ‘topped up’ by a fresh invasion after the Romans left.
