The animals of World War I

This haunting video remembers the animals who too played their part in World War One.

Millions of horses, donkeys and mules died from war wounds, disease and exhaustion. Untold numbers of dogs served as guards, message carriers, trench rat-catchers and companions. The city of Brussels even has a memorial to the pigeons which served Belgium carrying messages over the battlefields of Flanders.
