This Night In History – War Crime Dresden

One of the most appalling massacres of civilians in the entire history of the Second World War happened over 13th – 15th January, 1945, as waves of Allied bombers pounded the refugee-filled city with a deadly mixture of high explosives and incendiary devices.

The onslaught was deliberately calculated to create a firestorm  in order to devastate the city known as “the Venice of the East” in order to show the Soviets the awesome power of the US/British war machine.

It was also intended, of course, simply to kill as many German civilians as possible, at a time when key figures of Allied policy-making circles were seriously planning to wipe out the entire German nation in an unprecedented and well-documented plan for full-on genocide.
