Solid brass 1880’s Convent Votive Could be ours if we rescue it now?
Church candle stands are known as votive stands. Votive means something that is 'offered or consecrated in fulfilment of a vow'. It represents the prayer that is being said for one's self or someone else, which is why they're also known as a 'prayer candle.
This solid brass highly decretive Votive is around 145 years old and was made for a Convent in Ireland, sadly when the Convent closed it was auctioned off to an antique dealer who has now offered it to us for a knockdown price if we act swiftly.
It is a solid piece of Church furniture and today to buy a similar solid brass one as decorative as this would cost upwards of $4,000.
However, We can purchase this one and do the repairs (needs a general overhaul and we need to replace the top candle holder part, as it is missing) It needs a wee bit of work but all in all we can buy it and restore it to its former glory for around $500 in total!
So, let us all chip in and secure this historical religious artefact and give it a new life in OUR Magdalene Chapel. Remember it was made with love and spent over 100 years as an object of faith and prayer so let us rescue this fine item and put back into use. Are you with me?
