Breaking News: Militants attack Nairobi Hotel
Follow @KnightsTempOrgSomalia-based militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the ongoing attack on a popular Kenyan hotel frequented by Western tourists through an affiliated website, according to VOA's Somali service.
Gunfire and explosions were heard as police entered the upmarket Dusit Hotel in a district popular with westerners.
Early reports suggest there are four people have been killed. Soldiers carrying rifles were seen entering the complex, located on Nairobi's Riverside Drive.
They forced their way into the 14 Riverside Drive after shooting at security guards at the gate.
“We have an incident off Chiromo Road and we are treating it very seriously because it could be anything. We have deployed all specialised units including from the anti-terrorism police unit," Charles Owino, Police Spokesman told Capital FM News on telephone.
Police have cordoned off the area and are trying to rescue those trapped inside.
