Knifeman screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’ is taken down

Three Britons fought off a knife-wielding attacker with a chair before pinning him to the ground with a milk crate after he stabbed a woman and ran through the streets of Sydney with a butcher knife.

The suspect was filmed yelling "Allahu Akbar " and "shoot me in the f***ing face" as he ran through the Australian city with a bloody knife before brave witnesses - including three Brits - tackled him to the ground.

The alleged Sydney knifeman was carrying information related to terrorism ideology but police are not treating the attack as a terrorist incident.

The 21-year-old man, who is in police custody after this afternoon's attack, has been named by multiple media outlets as Mert Nay of Marayong near Blacktown in Sydney’s west.

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said: “Information was found on him that would suggest he had some ideologies related to terrorism, but he has no links to terrorism … he has no apparent links to terror organisations.”

Mr Fuller went on to say the accused was known to police but his history was “unremarkable” compared to the crimes he allegedly committed.

An unidentified 21-year-old woman, reportedly a sex worker, was found dead inside a residence on Clarence St, Wynyard at around 3.15pm. Nay is suspected of murder and has been charged with homicide.
