Seven Hundred Years of Christian Reconquista

Seven Hundred Years of Christian Reconquista

The Reconquista, English Reconquest, in medieval Spain and Portugal, was a series of campaigns by Christian states to recapture territory from the Muslim Moors, who had occupied most of the Iberian Peninsula in the early 8th century.

The beginning of the Reconquista is traditionally dated to c. 718, when the Christian Asturians under Pelayo defeated the Moors at the Battle of Covadonga.

The war of liberation was to take a further 700 years before all of Spain was once again Christian and free. Deus Vult!
